Haynes Nabs First Ever Sprint Win

31 AutoMeter Wisconsin wingLESS teams signed into a very wet Wilmot Raceway to compete on Memorial Day weekend. Track crews refused to allow Mother Nature to squash this Memorial Day competition. Due to their valiant efforts this event was able to be had, but saturated pits caused drivers late entrance into the facility thus qualifying was scratched in favor of a passing points format.

Patrick Haynes led all 20 laps, holding off challenges from both Jimmy Sivia and Chris Dodd, to earn the victory at Wilmot Raceway, and the first win of his sprint car career. In victory lane Haynes, the 5 time cancer survivor said he still had a drain in from his treatments and thanked his father for the setup in his car.

The A main was marred with caution on the start, but once the action got going, Patrick Haynes took the lead. Jimmy Sivia challenged Haynes throughout the entire race, even nosing ahead of Haynes 5H multiple times but on Memorial Day weekend Haynes would not be denied. As Todd Booker waved the crossed checkered flags, it was Patrick Haynes silver machine ahead of Chris Dodd who just laps prior had worked into 2nd. Jimmy Sivia settled for 3rd over Rusty Egan and Tim Cox.

Heat race number 1 was led early by Chris Klemko, but Chris Dodd would eventually power by in his Bumper to Bumper of Paddock Lake 01 machine and take the win. Behind Dodd, Tim Cox stalked Klemko but could not find a way by the 70 car and would settle for 3rd. Craig Campton would finish in 4th and Nick Petska was 5th.

Heat number 2 was Dominated by “The Siv” Jimmy Sivia who led from the drop of the green flag, picking up the victory over Allen Hafford. Scott Grissom would bring his 54 home in 3rd followed by Rusty Egan and Greg Olsen.

The third heat saw fans on there feet as Doug Schenck used the high side to drive from 4th to the lead in turns 1 and 2. After the first lap Schenck pulled away from the field, but as the race was nearing its conclusion Dennis Spitz had used the low line to reel in Schenck in the 71. Spitz could not get around Schenck and would settle for 2nd as the checkered flag fell. Jordan Paulsen would finish in 3rd with Natalie Klemko in 4th and James Walldan in 5th.

The final heat race saw Paul Schaffer take the early lead, but Ryan Zielski quickly got beside Schaffer. After a bit of contact Zielski took the lead and the win. Schaffer would settle for second followed by Patrick Haynes. Greg Alt was 4th and Charles Spoonmore rounded out the top 5.

The B main was dominated by Vince Bartolotta who led flag to flag. Charles Spoonmore would come home in 2nd over Greg Alt and Randy Stanford. Shawn Swim rounded out the top 5 and Derek Crane used a last lap pass to take the 6th and final transfer spot.
