Wilmot Raceway's 75th Anniversary Season will have a special highlight on Founder's Night scheduled for Memorial Day weekend Saturday, May 24 with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association(IRA) at its original home.
The winner of the first feature ever held in 1973 at the track's current location, Jim "King of the Cushion" Moulis of Fox Lake, IL, will have his familiar Fox Lake Harbor #30, on hand and plans to make a few laps. "The engine will be in it and it's all ready to go," said Moulis.
The car which Jim is bringing is the last one he ran when he retired from racing. The past few years the car and Jim have come to Founders Night.
John "Tornado" Tierney of Lake Villa, IL, is putting together his car which won a Kenosha County Fair Wilmot Open feature with "the little engine that could." The Curt's Truck Service/Tierney Signs car is in the process of having the engine freshened in Florida and the chassis is being updated and checked over at Callahan Motorsports. "I just have to make sure my suit still fits," said Tierney while looking over pictures of the old car in his Tierney Signs business."
"This is going to be really fun," said Tierney, when informed plans were for he and Moulis making a few laps together on the current track."I can't wait. This will be awesome."
The IRA was formed by Whitey Harris, and the late Ray Toft and Junior Dodd, over 50 years ago. Wilmot has been the home track of the IRA since it began. Tentative plans are for at least three IRA events during 2025 at Wilmot.
Founders Night will be in its 11th season this year.
All three IRA sanctioned classes, 410 winged outlaw sprints, WingLESS Sprints and Lightning Sprints will all be in action on May 24.
