Mattson Wins 2017 Series Championship While Schenck Wins Plymouth

16 of the top Wisconsin wingLESS series present by the IRA teams were invited to the Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday night for their championship finally. Qualifying saw the 2017 Wisconsin wingLESS series champion Jordan Mattson set quick time over Tim Cox and Nick Petska. Derek Crane would qualify in the 4th spot and Doug Schenck would be 5th.

Heat Race 1 would see Allen Hafford utilize a pole starting position to take the early lead, he would keep that lead all the way to the finish, picking up the heat race win. Former WIMS mini sprint champion Nick Petska would cross in 2nd followed by Doug Schenck. Rod Colburn and Nathan Crane would round out the top 5.
In Heat Race 2 Derek Crane would quickly move past pole starter Shawn Swim to take the lead. When the checkered flag fell Crane would pick up the win over Ryan Zielski and Tim Cox. Jimmy Sivia would bring his 91s home in 4th and Swim would take the 5th position.

A main action saw Jimmy Sivia take the early lead, as the field of 16 all stuck their cars right around the infield tires. As the laps began to click off, Allen Hafford decided it was time to make his move, he would shove his 38 machine under and past Sivia’s 91s and take the lead. Derek Crane would also sneak past Sivia to take the 2nd position. A yellow flag would fly with just a handful of laps remaining, Hafford would lead Crane and inaugural wingLESS Champion Doug Schenck back to green. As Hafford and Crane battled for the low line Schenck, the wily veteran moved his 71s car up the racetrack and found some speed on the high side. Schenck would use the momentum of the high line to drive past Hafford and take the lead. As the field came to the white flag it looked like Hafford might make a run back at Schenck, but as the 38 machine crossed the start finish line, Hafford got out of shape and gave Schenck enough breathing room to take the checkered. Allen Hafford would settle for 2nd place followed by Derek Crane and Tim Cox. Ryan Zielski would bring his 27 home in 5. 6th place would go to the newly crowned, 2017 Wilmot Raceway and Wisconsin wingLESS series champion Jordan Mattson.
