AUGUST 11, 2012; Wilmot, WI – After a one week delay due to rain, the Badger Midgets were able to complete their racing program as planned with Mike Hess grabbing top honors in the 30 lap feature contest.

The Wisconsin-Illinois Mini-Sprint main event saw Andrew Kiedrewski continue his win streak leading much of the feature contest enroute to a convincing victory.  Kierdrewski third consecutive win allowed him to close the gap on point leader Nick Petska as the season begins to wind down.

A solid turnout of 23 Don’s Auto Parts & Machine Service / Hoosier Tire Modifieds were on hand  with defending division champion Chris Carlson earning his second feature win of the 2012 season.  In taking the victory Carlson extended his point lead on Scott Kuxhouse who finished tenth this evening.

Jeff Bodendorfer Jr. would take over the lead of the main event near the halfway point of the contest after starting deep in the field.   In the closing laps Carlson would apply the pressure to Bodendorfer and as the pair raced to the checkered flag Carlson would steal the victory by a slim margin.  Bodendorfer would finish second in the contest.  Jimmy Morrison who won the most recent feature event in the Modifieds would finish third this evening.   Mike Conn crossed the line in fourth just ahead of Mike Wittenberg who completed the top five finishers.

With a near season high 27 R.A. Adams Enterprises / Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks entering the pit for competition this evening a B-feature was required after the heat races to set the balance of the field for the 20 car main event.  John Jansen would score the victory in the B-main to transfer to the feature contest.

The main event would see defending division champion Pat Rossmann square off with Dan Huber at the drop of the green flag for their 20 lap feature contest.  Title contender Rob Maule and John Maki Jr. would work their way into contention with Maki Jr. eventually taking over the lead position.

Once out front Maki Jr. would hold the lead to the checkered flag scoring his first victory of the 2012 season at Wilmot Raceway.  Rossmann would settle for second followed by Dan Huber, Maule and Dustin Richards.  Point leader Charlie Pinkalla suffered a dnf this evening finishing in the sixteenth position.  As a result his point lead on Huber was reduced to 37 points as the season begins to wind down.

Former Series Champion Mike Hess scored a wire-to-wire victory winning the 30-lap Stark Automotive Group/Mid-State Equipment Badger Midget Series feature, Saturday Night at Wilmot Raceway. The victory moved Hess into second place in series points, with five races remaining.

Separate incidents on the opening lap resulted in three complete restarts, the most serious of which saw Vance Lein flip, escaping injury. Once underway Hess jumped into the lead followed by the tight pack of Billy Balog, Bubba Altig, Brandon Waelti and Caleb Armstrong. Two cautions for stalled car on laps eight and ten kept the field close behind Hess. The next seven laps saw Hess hold off Altig for the lead, before the caution was displayed for a spun car.

On the restart Hess continued to run the lower portion on the multi-groove track leading Altig and Armstrong. Altig narrowed Hess’ advantage in the final two laps but was never able to challenge for the victory. Hess driving the Jerry Hardy owned Buzzard/Hawk Chevrolet No. 1 finished two-car lengths ahead of Altig, Armstrong, Waelti, and Balog. “The car was great on the bottom of the track tonight, its a fresh motor it ran perfect” commented Hess on his second career series feature win at the track.

Dalton Armstrong topped the field in qualifying with a lap of 14.477 seconds besting Brad Loyet’s three-year old record of 14.755 seconds. Jason Treault took the lead on the second lap winning the 15-lap Badger 600 Micro Series feature, finishing ahead of points leader Chad Bogar, fast qualifier Jake Reif, Matt Padtra, and Andrew Funk.
